Ashleigh’s Story

Ashleigh provides support for her younger sister who has down syndrome and helps her parents a great deal with looking after her 4 other younger siblings alongside emotionally supporting her parents.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my work experience with Lib Dem leader Ed Davey and I learnt so much during the experience. This wouldn’t have been possible without YCDT’s help and I’m so grateful for their support.”

Ashleigh’s caring role has adapted since moving to boarding school through a bursary YCDT facilitated, she’s home regularly on the weekends to look after all her siblings. Despite this, the move to boarding school has given Ashleigh the space to focus on her A Levels in Maths, Politics and Psychology.

Through YCDT’s support, Ashleigh did some work experience with the Liberal Democrat party leader, Ed Davey, in preparation to study for a degree in Politics at University.

“YCDT has had a huge impact on my life and supported me through my education excellently”
